I have written an entry about this messageboard on the BBCsite h2g2. I put it into Peer review and wrote this introdutory message.
Posting:
Entry: Jezza's exiles (A Jeremy Vine Show message board.) - A20162099
Author: Pamela7416-Friendly Welsh Dragon - U235511
This entry is about a recently created messageboard/forum. It was created by a poster from the old BBC messageboards after the closure of some of the boards. She created it for posters to continue discussions about the Jeremy Vine programme. Since then it has grown into a larger Forum ,where many subjects can be discussed. It has a friendly atmosphere and is a credit to it's creator.
I received a few replies including one from B.D.G. and one from Traveller-in -time.
Looked in today and my original post has been hidden. I have had an EMail from the BBC which says "Posts to the BBC message boards should not contain advertising or promotion of any kind. This may include links to personal websites or forums, charities,or details of concerts or fundraising events that fall outside the BBC's Editorial Guidelines."
It goes on to say " If you can rewrite your contribution to remove the problem ,we'd be happy for you to post it again."
Not sure how to do that. How can I write a post about a forum without mentioning the forum.
Pamela.

Only 2 days Pamela?. It's been up the Khyber for over a week now.
The boffins are apparently upgrading stuff so that it'll be super duper, but in the meantime it's trim your toenails while you wait for the page to come up.

Hi Pamela,
I don't know what is going on over there in H2G2 but I think they are getting a bit above themselves these days. As you say how can you write about Jezzasexiles without giving the name? I'm not sure how you can get around it. Seems like it is suffering from the same idiotic moderation that the R2 boards are these days.

If it's on a shared server with a couple of hundred other phpBB2 forums running simultaneously, each one talking very inefficiently to a MySQL database (or whatever) then I'm afraid it will never run smoothly. phpBB is an increasingly lumpy set of scripts and its reputation is well earned! We've been running phpBB3 beta and were expecting better, but alas no.....
The only way to get it running smoothly is to install it onto a dedicated server - but unfortunately that can cost money and hassle.

LGThe BBCsite h2g2. Is nothing to do with PHP BB – why bother even mentioning it?
To me it looks purpose built – very similar software to the actual ‘bbc boards’.
And quite frankly this is the latest attack on PHP BB you have made – PHP BB is a good forum and it is people like you spreading a bad reputation about it that is at fault.
If you have a problem with PHP BB and you actually purchased it you should contact their programmers – not moan and groan all the time on forums like this.
I run several different forums and some custom built ones by our team and I can assure YOU – that PHP BB fully patched and updated how it should be is fine and communicated with its bases fine. In fact it runs as smoothly as any forum does.
A good tip for guys like you quoting third party blah and put downs is shut up about someone’s product unless you actually know what you are on about.
More than this stop spreading ‘slanderous tat’ at the expense of an independent software development company.

The BBC R2 boards went over to the DNA system that h2g2 uses nearly 2 years ago.
I think the main problem we have at the moment is the time difference which means that we often seem to be 'down' in the morning. Hopefully it will all settle down.
I can't understand why Pamela's article was withdrawn from h2g2.

Sorry about my double post  I have taken one off. I've had some problems with this board for the last two days. Pamela. This is typical of the BBC to overbear over people like this.
I find it more difficult to understand that company Pamela – we are constantly squeezed a bit more for licence fees, which essentially are a tax and nothing else – yet have little say over the running of this national institute.
For those to remove you’re posting in such a way when referring to a board which was created by them dissolving the ‘R2 board’ and built as a tribute board is doubly wrong and an insult to the Jeremy Vine Listeners.
A very sad day Pamela.
BTW – keep up with the poems they are ace – a few of us here read them now.

HThe main problem at the moment is the ‘bandwidth’ messing up all over the country Helen.
With millions of new users logging on world wide every day – you can not expect things to run as rapidly or smoothly as they used to when half the numbers were on.
There is a noticeable drop in use speed at various times of the day – On any system used.
This is besides the fact every ‘Tom Dick and Harry’ is using denial of service tools all over the world on various sites and boards – it gets harder to run any board without interference.
On one of the company sites we use ‘Fusion boards’ and even that which is not widely available to the public gets lagged out by programmers – it is not hard if you know what you are doing to take any board down .
Sadly this is becoming a national sport for certain people on the Internet scene.
I do not see it getting any better – what ever boards are used.

Pamela I'm confident they will put it back hopefully!!! Some idiot has complained probably a grudge somewhere. Anyway if not we will launch a campaign and get it re-instated :)
If they don't put it back soon, we can ask Peta and/or Jimster about it. The BBC work in mysterious ways sometimes. :P

Helen,
You lambast h2g2 for removing a link to this board, yet I post a link to another board to aid the discussion and, in fact, to answer a question asked by YOU and it gets modded.
If you can't see the irony I suggest a trip to Specsavers.

Joe the point being they can read our board yours cannot now be read. It is a question of allowing links to sites that are not visible therefore the content cannot be checked ,the BBC are clear on this :-) for various reasons. Had the board been visible the link would be allowed as far as I'm concerned. Although the whole thread had gone off topic from the original thread which I believe was about logos on this site, anyway but that's another matter altogether.
Anyway the post in question of Pamela's did not have a link. So it's not relevant plus it was a descriptive entry to the h2g2 guide it was not advertising for another site on an existing board, which if you think about it even from the BBC's point of view why would you do it? It's a bit like Sainsbury's advertising for kwiksave isn't it?
If the post had had any other contect apart from a link to a site which is not visible to the public then it would have been allowed.
Hope that clarifies the situation?

Before you accuse me of 'lambasting' h2g2 do you know what it's purpose is?
Just in case you don't, it's not a message board but a place where they ask for articles to be written on all manor of things.
Pamela submitted an entry but in recent times they have become rather picky on what they have on there. There were several discussions about this change over there from the people who operate it. Many disagreed that it was the right way to go.
As for why your post was removed, you should have seen the answer on that thread saying why. It broke the rule on links to closed forums. So I think it might be appropriate for you to retract your accusation.

I can't recall making any accusation, other than your not spotting the irony.
BDG,
With all due respect, you are taking this moderation business far too seriously. Lighten up and make life easier for yourself.

:D probably a good point Joe but actually we don't do that much moderation despite what you might think :-)
My only real issue is when people resort to a slanging match that has nothing to do with the original topic of the thread. Easy to say ligtenen up when you don't have to deal with the emails from upset posters who think they have been wronged in some way. But hey yeah you have a point and yes I see the irony believe you me I do!!
The Togs board manager takes the view the problem is, if you have an aim then sometimes you have to do stuff that makes you unpopular in order to achieve your goal if that explains stuff? He includes having to ban people he likes in that who post a lot because they just keep breaking the rules ;-)
