This has got to be the classiest SF series of all time. Set in the 23rd Century with political twistings and turnings all the way, it shows that humanity basically doesn't improve with time, with like today, a few exceptions. Some of the Alien races are as bad, if not worse. The special effects are stunning. The writer J. Michael Straczynski is nothing short of brilliant. An incredible imagination. The series won quite a few awards and rightly so.

I found it samey. One alien race has a spat (usually historic) with another race, which if they started a war would lead to the destruction of the space station. However, not to worry because all was neatly sorted in an hour, and they’d be towel flicking each other in the showers as the end credits rolled.

This covered pretty much the episodes I watched. No one regular character stood out either they all seemed to be one dimensional diplomatic types, imagine a space station populated by Douglas Hurd clones! Can not argue with effects, some of the best ever seen on TV and it was well written even if the story was somewhat predictable.
Perhaps I didn’t watch the right episodes but it was too static my taste.

You really have to watch it all. From a tentative first series it developed into a complicated overall scenario with several characters standing out very much. It's not the sort of series you could watch only on occasions and get to grips with. Watching a single episode half way through would be meaningless. It really needs total absobtion.

Until the new battlestar galactica came along this was simply the best sci fi program made! One all encompassing arc which was well written!

Want to own it on dvd but it has never really come down in price ... which is testament to how good it is!

I have the lot on DVD and got it at a bargain special offer. This included 6 B5 movies plus the "Crusade" series. Bad news Pointy, that offer has now expired, at least with the on line dealer I got it from. Worth looking around though. - Good luck!
