These five new processors from AMD are designed for low and middle range CPU market, more exactly: three new Athlon X2, X3 and X4 and 2 Phenom X2 and X4 with minor speed increases.
They are all using the AM3 socket being compatible also with AM2+ MoBos with Bios update and are all in “energy efficient” family being build with 45nm process. Not such a big difference, but these new models are well-designed for building a performant system with less budget.
Here are the details for the new CPUs:
Athlon II X2 255 – 3.1 GHz for $74
Athlon II X3 440 – 3.0 GHz for $84
Athlon II X4 635 – 2.9 GHz for $119
Phenom II X2 555 – 3.2 GHz for $99
Phenom II X4 910e – 2.6 GHz for $169
We should still wait for the Thuban Family six-core CPUs in the second quarter, this will be an interesting launch.
