Problems for Apple’s new iPad
Some companies claim the legal right to using iPad name, after Apple launched its product two days ago. Fujitsu is selling a tablet named iPad since 2002, Siemens used the name for some of its engines, STMicro for a chip technology and Coconut Grove Pads, a Canadian lingerie company, is using this name for some of its products.
Fujitsu said that in 2003 had request the iPad brand to be registered but until now they haven’t received any answer. STMicro is using this name since 2001 for a technology used mobile phones industry.
Neither Fujitsu, nor the other companies said something about going to trial with Apple, but one thing is sure: things will not remain unchanged. Even if Apple will still use this iPad brand name , some agreements must be made, like buying the name from Fujitsu or paying fees for using it. In any case, Apple will loose some money after this dispute.
